The Southwest Research and Outreach Center is a resource that builds quality of life through individuals working together providing research and education for agriculture, communities, and family.
The Southwest Research and Outreach Center (SWROC) at Lamberton originated in 1959 with 240 acres and has grown to 828 acres with the addition of the 'Elwell Agroecology Farm, gifted by Larry and Ruth Elwell. Income from the Parker Sanders' property, which was gifted in 1981, continues to support programs throughout Minnesota. In 1968, University of Minnesota Extension Service faculty started to locate at the SWROC.
ResearchResearch programs are directed toward providing more effective, efficient and enviromentally safe methods of crop and soil management. Areas of current research at the SWROC include soils, crops, entomology, pathology, horticulture, water quality, and forestry.
Faculty with Extension appointments are located at the SWROC. They focus on farm management and marketing, livestock systems, and integrated pest management, family development, and K-12 education.
