Here is the first issue
for 2009. It is still a bit too cold and the day lengths too short for
pessimism to be attractive. At this point, I can still forecast record
yields and profits for SW MN fields in 2009. I hope this attitude can
continue. Unfortunately pessimism, cynicism and sarcasm usually arrive
with the first weather or equipment caused planting delay of the spring.
It's not to early
to start thinking about soybean aphids. It
is way too early to worrying about them though. The
link contains a soybean
aphid insecticide trial. The data does manage to illustrate some
of the concepts in aphid management with respect to timing and residual
control that we have been talking about the past few years. It is long-winded
but it does have an abstract of sorts and pictures for the speed readers.
Extension meetings
you may be interested in.
There are several meetings
coming up in the near future. Barriers to bushels will be held at several
locations: February 25 in Dawson, February 27 in Benson, March 3 in
Fergus Falls and March 5 in Marshall. Details can be found
at http://swroc.cfans.umn.edu/upcoming/2009/bartobushels.pdf.
Winter crops day events
will be held in Pipestone
on February 24 and Fairmont
on March 3.
