8:30 -  Registration

9:00 - Corn rootworm management

Bruce Potter, Extension Integrated Pest Management Specialist, will lead a tour of corn rootworm research on corn rootworm management options. The discussion will center on attendee observations and questions. The session will focus on a review of soil insecticides, and transgenic traits, including currently available pyramids of Bt traits and the newest available trait package, SmartStax Pro, scouting, and the implications of Bt resistance and weather on the status of rootworm populations

10:00 - Soybean cyst nematode management

Dr. Seth Naeve, Extension soybean agronomist, will discuss soybean cyst nematode (SCN) management.  A focus will be on resistance management and the common virulence on the most common source of genetic SCN resistance available to farmers.  Naeve will discuss awareness (soil sampling) and management strategies (variety selection and seed treatments) for SCN.  Naeve will also provide insight on the interactions between SCN and another common malady - iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC).

11:00 - Weed management techniques

Dr. Debalin Sarangi, Extension weed scientist, will lead a tour of weed research plots. Sarangi will present information on corn and soybean weed management research and the status of herbicide resistance in Minnesota. Weed research plots on the timing and efficacy of PRE and POST herbicide applications and herbicide resistance will be topics for discussion.  The focus will be on strategies to optimize weed control and delay the development of herbicide resistance.
